I ride a 900cc Kawasaki Ninja – its top speed is just shy of 170mph and it can take you from a standing start to 60mph in just over three seconds.
So why do these idiots think by trying to race a biker they're ever going to do anything other than
come second? They know it – I know it.
But like all spoilt children who lose the games they're playing – they try and make up for their shortcomings with bad behaviour.
The A14 rush hour is prime example. Subaru child suddenly swerves out
in front of a biker filtering through the traffic to make the process dangerous because "why should I let a bike overtake me while I'm stuck in traffic?"
Mondeo moron is coming up on a lorry and wants to overtake – forgetting the basics of mirror, signal manoeuvre – so misses the biker already in the right hand lane, mid-overtake, because "I didn't see him".
Nah mate, you didn't look is what you mean.
And this brings me on to the next batch of irritating drivers – the school run mums and glamour puss preeners. You know the ones. The ladies who are busy adjusting their mirror to check their make up and trying to find a CD to play... Oh hang on babez, me other phone's ringing... Luv u l8rz".
These driver distractions are usually followed by a screech, a bang and biker on the road while Miss VW Beetle explains to the officer: "He just came out of nowhere and was going really fast. Honestly."
And PC Plod chalks the crash down to another biker 'probably' going too fast.
But it's no coincidence the number of crashes has increased in line with the number of gadgets on a car. There's now MP3 connection to sort, DVDs, kids in the back, mobile phones, rush hour jams, rows with back seat drivers, sat navs to look at - do you see where I'm going with this?
When was the last time a biker caused a crash by being distracted by these things? With a bike, it's just you, your senses and the road. And with a little more sense from car drivers, there'll be less of us actually ON the road.
