Highways England were updating motorists on Twitter and at 8pm said: "Traffic has been stopped on the A14 west between J11 and J10 due to a lorry fire. Northants Fire on scene, traffic officers en-route."
Both directions of the A14 between junction 10 at Burton Latimer and junction 11 at Cranford were later closed while firefighters tackled the lorry blaze.
By 11pm, the eastbound route was open but firefighters continued to work on the LGV.
The carriageway was fully open in both directions by 4.30am this morning.
